The Oregon Reading Association is a professional organization for those people who are interested in literacy learning (reading, writing, speaking, listening) and the promotion of lifetime literacy.

Our Purpose:

Support the mission of the International Reading Association.

To coordinate and support the efforts and activities of the local Oregon Reading Association councils in the State of Oregon.

To encourage reading/literacy learning in ways that lead to enjoyment and a lifelong engagement in literacy.

To explore and disseminate pertinent, significant investigations and practices of literacy teaching/learning.

To offer professional development opportunities regarding best practices in literacy teaching/learning i.e. institutes, conferences, lending library and meetings.

To provide support for teachers-in-preparation and to form alliances with teacher preparation programs.

To advocate for community involvement that supports research-tested best practices in literacy learning for all.

To promote mutual understanding and cooperative work among literacy educators locally, nationally and internationally.
